Summary:

Degree and License Waiting Period for Impending Graduates:

Education:
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.
This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.
S.
Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School:
Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
AND License:
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

Qualifications:

Your work experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the type of work and/or tasks as stated for the grade level(s) you are applying to:
GS-5:
Possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing with no experience; OR Possess a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing AND one full year of professional nursing experience.
This experience includes:
observing and assessing patients' clinical conditions with the ability to identify and interpret serious situations, formulating a nursing diagnosis appropriate to patients' needs, setting up and operating general nursing equipment, administering medication, and documenting nursing activities regarding direct patient care.
GS-7:
Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision ; OR Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing AND at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level).
Examples of experience include:
contributing to the development of a plan of care for assigned patients based on the nursing process, providing nursing interventions based on established plan of care and evaluating effectiveness, setting up and operating specialized equipment, and demonstrates nursing leadership in providing technical guidance and direction to other nursing personnel (such as Licensed Practical Nurses and Nursing Assistants); OR Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing AND two full years of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level).
