The Staff Assistant role serves all visitors by creating a warm, welcoming environment.
This position will be responsible for demonstrating hospitality to all Day Center visitors, as well as scheduling appointments and meetings, managing supply inventory and maintaining cleanliness in common spaces.
FPL is a non-profit that serves families who are in a housing crisis, covering the spectrum of Prevention -- Diversion from Shelter -- Shelter -- Stabilization.
We strive to build trusting relationships with families in our programs and walk with them through their unique housing crisis to fulfill our mission of empowering families in a housing crisis to achieve stabilization through community connections.
The Staff Assistant will play a key role in the mission as the first person many people, including families in need, volunteers and donors, will interact with.
Responsibilities for this position will include, but not be limited to:
Empowering Families & Achieving Stabilization:
Be a welcome presence to guests, clients and potential clients at the Day Center and on the phone Have knowledge and understanding of FPL programs in order to answer questions accurately Handle all reception and administrative duties:
screening, responding and directing phone calls/collecting and distributing mail & donations Schedule client appointments with FPL staff and manage staff calendars Participate in all required training in order to engage with clients in an empowering manner Support the daily functioning of the Day Center to make it hospitable and useful to visitors and staff Community Connections:
Have knowledge of available community resources to assist families Communicate and interact with volunteers and donors regarding FPL when they visit the Day Center Communicate with community partners and neighbors regarding upcoming FPL events, volunteer opportunities, etc.
Participate in Douglas County Peer Fellow Program Qualifications/Education/Skills:
Enthusiasm for the mission of Family Promise of Lawrence Ability to work effectively in a team environment Ability to communicate effectively, plan, organize and prioritize work in a flexible work environment, and be self-motivated and directed Proficient in Microsoft Office / Google platform Engage sensitively and respectfully with the individuals and families experiencing homelessness, particularly within the context of a crisis situation Multi-tasking and time management abilities critical Must be able to handle detailed information with a high degree of accuracy and to maintain a high degree of confidentiality Interpersonal skills are critical with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people from different cultures, situations and faiths Job Type:
