Peer Mentor (Student Hourly) - POOL

## Position Overview
KU-Transition to Postsecondary Education (KU-TPE) is seeking a student assistant to support KU-TPE program staff and KU-TPE students to assist in the development and implementation of the peer mentor support model as well as other activities of the KU-TPE program. Responsibilities of this position include a variety of support activities including; facilitation of one on one or group tutoring, in-class support, facilitation of study sessions and support in social engagement.
## Job Description
1. Attend class/classes assigned to with KU-TPE student regularly
2. Provide academic support including;
1. Assisting mentee with course assignments
2. Helping mentee to navigate campus resources
3. Facilitate group or 1:1 tutoring sessions
4. Assist in organization of schedule and academic materials
3. Attend training and ongoing support meetings for KU-TPE Peer Mentors
4. Meet with KU-TPE staff bi-weekly
5. Support TPE student in social engagement opportunities
6. Serve as a resource for students new to the KU-TPE program
7. Assist with other duties as assigned
## Required Qualifications
1. Undergraduate or graduate student meeting enrollment requirements for employment
2. Excellent speaking and writing skills as evidenced by application materials and interview
3. Demonstrated experience using MS Office, specifically developing spreadsheets in Excel, using editing and formatting features of Word (e.g. track changes, inserting pictures/graphs, wrapping text, etc.), as well as creating and editing slides in PowerPoint.
4. 1 year of previous experience supporting peers with disabilities
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
## Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience with and knowledge of a variety of KU resources, student services (academic and social), and clubs.
2. Previous experience providing peer support or mentorship.
3. Experience using various online applications and social media (e.g., Google apps, Blackboard, Facebook, Twitter, Remind 101, YouTube, Blackboard, discussion boards, etc.)
4. Involved in previous experience in a student organization
5. Eligibility for work study
6. Demonstrated reliability, attention to detail, and ability to work independently to complete tasks.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
