Graduate Research Assistant - Access to Success

## Position Overview
One PART TIME (50%) position for a graduate research assistant. Access to Success is a Field Initiated Research Project funded by the National Institute on Disability and Independent Living Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR), a federal agency. The purpose of the research is to evaluate an on-line tutorial and accompanying face-to-face training for community college students who have a disability. We will be comparing students who have been randomly assigned to a training group, with those who are in a comparison group, on various measures of their attitudes about accommodations and self-advocacy skills. We have agreements with four community colleges, all located in eastern Kansas, to participate in the study. Applicants who are hired for this position must successfully pass a background check. This is a 12-month position; This project is entering its third and final year of federal funding, so that continuation is dependent on successful acquisition of additional funding.
## Job Description
The GRA will participate in all aspects of the study, including travel to the community college to administer video recorded role play assessments of the students engaging in the training model to request an accommodation, providing orientation to students on use of the online training modules, conducting follow-up tutoring to students, participating in rating observations of video recordings to score student performance, and assisting in other aspects of data collection, analysis, and report production.
Must be a degree-seeking graduate student admitted to a graduate program during the current semester. The research must be applicable to his/her field (or a closely related field) of study and is integral to the student?s education. During the term of appointment, the GRA must be in academic good standing and making satisfactory progress toward a graduate degree.
## Required Qualifications
1. Current enrollment in 6+ hours in KU graduate program in special education, school psychology, psychology, applied behavioral science, social work, or related field.
2. Minimum one year experience or background with disabilities, either in direct teaching, training, or services with children or adults with disabilities, or with other vulnerable populations.
3. A valid driver?s license and reliable transportation is required for this position.
## Preferred Qualifications
1. MA, MS, or ABD with strong interests in disability, advocacy, independent living, and community participation for people with disabilities.
2. Experience in teaching, training, or tutoring students with cognitive or learning, sensory (hearing, vision), or physical disabilities
3. Basic knowledge of research data collection and management

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
