Student Hourly Assistant GEOL171

## Position Overview
The goal of this position is to make the online GEOL171 easier for students to negotiate and provide suggestions to make the assignments more meaningful and easier for the TA to grade. This position has three parts. 1) Respond to student emails about difficulties accessing on line material and confusion about assignment instructions. 2) Consider the online materials for the course and make suggestions about how they could be made more clear. 3) Consider the homework assignments and suggest how they could be made to be more meaningful and easier to grade. 4) Help to update online videos. The position would involve working with Blackboard, assist with emails from students, and help make one to two videos.
## Job Description
The student will be expected to meet with the TA and/or the class professor once a week to review accomplishments and determine goals for the following week and rest of the semester. This meeting will occur in 120D Lindley and will last one hour. Time will be determined based on the schedules of the participants. For the other 4 hours a week the student may work wherever and whenever they like. Emails sent to students should be cc?d to the class TA and the professor. Any request from the TA or the professor should be clearly stated. If no response is obtained within 12 hours, it is expected that a reminder will be sent.
## Required Qualifications
1. Completed GEOL171 in spring, summer, or fall of 2016 and received a grade of B or above
2. Access to a computer and Blackboard
## Preferred Qualifications
1. Good communication skills, friendly demeanor, prompt, and responsible
2. Additional knowledge of the topics covered in GEOL171

Student Appointments
Student appointments may be either undergraduate or graduate students. Exceptions to the minimum enrollment requirements that are granted for GTA/GRA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to student hourly appointments.
During the semester term of the student hourly appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours.
For summer periods the student must:
1. have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester, or
2. be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours, or
3. be enrolled in summer session, or
4. be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
