Housing Desk Assistant - Thanksgiving & Winter Break Only

## Position Overview
The Desk Assistant (DA) is an hourly student staff member in Residence Life within KU Student Housing who reports to the Administrative Assistant and/or Complex Director. Desk Assistants are responsible for customer service, access control, administrative, and communication functions within a residence community. Desk Assistants work collaboratively with other student staff in paraprofessional roles to maintain confidentiality of information and ensure an academically supportive environment for students. DAs are expected to remain in good standing with the University and Student Housing for the duration of their employment.

## Job Description
40% - Act in a customer service role ? ensuring a welcoming and approachable reception area for the community. Greet residents, staff members, and other guests, answer phone, and assist with questions and concerns.
35% - Monitor the card access system and security cameras for the resident community ? ensuring access by residents, approved staff members, and accompanied guests only.
10% - Become familiar with and enforce policies and procedures of the University of Kansas and KU Student Housing. Document incidents occurring during working hours and submit incident reports through the designated online incident reporting system. Communicate with other Residence Life staff members when appropriate and/or in accordance with reporting structure.
5% - Perform administrative tasks related to hall occupancy: key box inventory, check-ins/check-outs, lockouts, equipment check-outs, mail and packages, room reservations.
5% - Facilitate communication with the community. Serve as the information hub, at the direction of senior staff. Coordinate incoming and outgoing communication.
5% - Participate in all scheduled departmental, staff, and training programs as directed by your supervisor. Other duties as assigned
## Required Qualifications
1. Expected to work Thanksgiving and Winter Break, including some holidays including evenings, nights, and weekend shifts.
2. Available to work weekend or overnight shifts each week as scheduled
3. Must meet KU minimum enrollment for employment (6 credit hours)
4. Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of software and applications, as evidenced by application materials
## Preferred Qualifications
1. KU Student Housing living experience
2. Current KU Student Housing resident
3. Prior customer service and/or administrative experience
4. Ability to work and make decisions in a high volume, fast-paced environment
5. Ability to follow direction and communicate clearly in written and oral form

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
