POOL - Language and Culture Liaison

## Job Description
The Language and Culture Liaisons lead daily English-language conversation and activities groups, both meant to improve our students? command of spoken English and help integrate them into university and community life. Language and Culture Liaisons, acting as Student Assistants, may also aid Applied English Center instructors during classroom instruction of students at a low level of English proficiency. This includes guiding groups of students through classroom activities under the supervision of the classroom instructor, facilitating group discussion, engaging students in conversation, as well as helping instructors with basic classroom tasks such as collecting homework or monitoring students during exams. Student assistants may also be asked to participate in one-on-one tutorials with students who may need extra practice with various English skills. This position does not require teaching, grading or materials preparation.
## Required Qualifications
Must have high level of English proficiency, as evidenced by application materials.
Excellent written communication skills, as evidenced by application materials.
Sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student.
Must be involved with a community or campus club, as evidenced by application materials.
Must not be enrolled in AEC courses.
Experience working with international students, as evidenced by application materials.
Must be able to give instructions and explain details, as evidenced by application materials.
## Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrate initiative and independence in application materials.
Possess an openness toward other cultures.
Possess cross cultural communication skills.
Travel or residency abroad.
Clear, unaffected speech.
Recent, prior full-time enrollment at KU for one year.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
